The 2009 CHARTTES Training Advisory Council Annual General Meeting was held on Friday 25 September 2009.
I would like to personally thank the outgoing management committee for their commitment and enthusiasm. In particular I extend a special thank you to our former Chairperson and committee member David King for his dedication to CHARTTES Training Advisory Council over a number of years.
Chairperson Paul Rousham presents David King with a Certificate of Appreciation for his significant contribution to CHARTTES Training Advisory Council.

Hospitality and Sport & Recreation stakeholders have your say
CHARTTES Training Advisory is hosting forums on behalf of Service Skills Australia to enable relevant stakeholders to provide input into National Environmental Scans (EScans) for these sectors. Topics of discussion will include the following:
- Leadership
- Workplace environment
- Understanding workforce planning
- Vocational Education and Training
- Addressing skills and labour shortages
The Sport & Recreation Forum will be held on Monday 26 October 2009 from 1.00pm to 4.00pm.
The Hospitality Forum will be held on Tuesday 27 October from 8.30am to 11.30am

•ARTS - Country Arts SA's 6th Regional State Forum
Artists, artworkers, volunteers and those interested in how the arts contribute to regional sustainability across the State are invited to attend the 6th Regional State Forum: Creative Stimulus 2009 - the role of the arts in the economic downturn. The program for the 2009 forum consists of a series of stimulating workshops from leading industry practitioners including key note speaker Richard Harris of the SA Film Corporation. •Innovation Business Skills Australia (IBSA) Report - ‘Making ICT related Training Packages more Flexible and Relevant to Young People'
This investigative report looks at how to identify and test possible approaches to more flexible packaging and design of existing "technology-based" Training Packages and qualifications under IBSA. The rationale for this work is to create more effective linkages with pre-vocational programs so as to meet the needs of younger learners with potential to become entrants into technology-related industries. •Music Training Package
While the Music Training Package has been submitted to the National Quality Council for endorsement, the package is due to be launched at the Austral Asian Music Business Conference in Sydney in August. Read more here.
•Restless Central 2009
Restless Dance Theatre is running a series of dance workshops for young people aged 15-26 with and without a disability. No dance experience is necessary and the sessions are run by highly experienced tutors. For further information and bookings, visit the Restless Dance Theatre website.
•SPORT & RECREATION - Fitness Training Package Review
A workshop was held in Melbourne on 28 July with 40 industry experts signing off and agreeing upon various decisions regarding the Fitness Training Package. •Aquatics Attractions Project
The first group of participants in this project have commenced training at Sport SA for their Certificate III in Community Recreation (Aquatics). Stay tune for further updates as the project progresses!
•Latest apprentice and trainee statistics
The National Centre for Vocational Education Research has released the March quarter 2009 apprentice and trainee statistics for the Australian vocational education and training system.
Commencements (seasonally adjusted) peaked for the trades in the March quarter 2008.
Comparing apprentice and trainee activity for the March quarter 2009 with the March quarter 2008:
- The number of people commencing a trade apprenticeship or traineeship decreased by 21.9%
- The number of people commencing a non-trade apprenticeship or traineeship increased by 1.6%
The trades in which commencements have been most hit by the economic downturn are automotive and engineering, construction, electrotechnology and telecommunications, and the wood trades.
