The Hospitality Sector Indigenous Workforce Development project will work closely with employers in the Hospitality sector in Alice Springs, Katherine and Outer Darwin to develop an Indigenous Workforce Development Strategy which includes implementation and formal evaluation phases. The focus of the strategy is to develop this in partnership with good representation across Industry within each of the Regions.
Our project partners, Cross Cultural Consultants will lead the development of the strategy to ensure that the incorporation of Indigenous identities, cultures, knowledge and values are a strong consideration in the development of the strategy, implementation and evaluation stages.
The strategy will be developed together with Industry and key stakeholders throughout the Regions. There will be considerable consultation undertaken to ensure community ownership and involvement. Once the strategy is finalised the implementation phase will focus on workshops, training and the development of support resources for Industry to implement the strategy. There will be a strong focus on cross cultural awareness throughout this phase. The project team objective is to work closely with the Hospitality sector across the Northern Territory to develop strategies to drive demand for Indigenous training and employment, and to integrate skills development for employment, retention and career development of Indigenous people. These opportunities are matched by a strong desire from visitors to the Northern Territory who are seeking an Indigenous experience. The project is funded under the Indigenous Training for Employment Program (a partnership between the NT Government Department of Business and Employment and the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations). The program is to assist Indigenous adults of working age (15 years and over) in regional and remote communities of the Northern Territory. The Regions which this project targets are Alice Springs, Katherine and Outer Darwin. The targeted regions have established tourism and hospitality businesses experiencing difficulty in engaging and retaining Indigenous employees. There are job opportunities in all of these Regions and this project will assist those employers in accessing, developing and retaining an Indigenous workforce. |
