The Industry

The Tourism industry plays a key role in the commercial operations of many other industries including Accommodation, Food and Beverage, travel, and Retail and is a major source of income for many Territory businesses.The Tourism and Hospitality industy employs up to 1.2 million full-time, part-time, and casual employees across Australian in wide range of skill areas. It offers diversity in a range of occupations from Planning and Product Development, Sales and Marketing, Tour Guiding and Operations, Sales and Office Operations, Meetings and Events, and Attractions and Themes parks.

 Growth is expected to occur in spercific trading sectors including:

  • Eco Tourism
  • Cultural Tourism
  • Wine Tourism
  • Meeting, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions
  • The expanding "Coffee Tourism" sector, increasingly staff with specialist skills
  • Sport Tourism
     

Training Packages

THC04 Tourism

The Tourism Training Package covers attrations and theme parks, retail and wholesale, travel, tour operations, tour guiding, meetings and events, vistor information services.

There are 17 qualifications in Tourism.

Many areas of the Tourism Industry are complex or muilt-faceted and include aspects of many other industries such as Hospitality, Retail, Sport and Recreation, Horticulture and Transport. These are addressed through the importation of relevant units of competence and flexible qualifications.
