At the CMC meeting Australian Government Minister for the Environment, Heritage, Water and the Arts, Peter Garrett outlined his vision for a dynamic and collaborative approach to support for the arts.

The report suggests as potential future directions improved access to culture in the digital environment; increased production of creative digital content; developed skills of artists and executives; strengthened creative sector partnerships; and a commercialised creative innovation economy.

The report was endorsed and released by the CMC and is inviting public comment: Building a Creative Innovation Economy

Also released at the recent CMC was the group's statistical brochure Arts and Culture in Australian Life that highlights the increasing importance of arts and culture to Australians with 3.5 million people working in the culture and leisure sector and 85 per cent of Australians attended at least one cultural venue or event. www.culturaldata.gov.au
