Can you ‘unpack' training specifications to determine the language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills learners need to successfully complete a unit of competency or accredited course module?

Service Skills Australia continues to receive many 'hits' on our popular Taking the Lead website, a virtual 'one-stop shop' for developing language, literacy and numeracy (LLN) skills in the service industries.

Coming soon to the site will be a 'guide' to help you answer questions such as these. The guide will link to service industry scenarios to help strengthen your understanding of just how important workplace communication is to effective performance.

An added feature of the guide is that it will be mapped to TAALLN401B Address language, literacy and numeracy issues within learning and assessment practice in TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and will provide ideas on collecting evidence if you want to seek accreditation for that unit.

We're interested in hearing from trainers and assessors who might be able to provide the ‘get real' factor to this guide. Please contact the project manager, Jana Scomazzon (03 95328809 or This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it ), if you can help.

In the meantime, keep visiting the site www.takingthelead.com.au for LLN news, information and advice.
